What is Family? [Dec. 6th, 2007|12:07 pm]
Is a family merely those we are biologically linked to? Or does it extend past (and sometimes exclude) simple genetics?

In my experience, it seems that "family" is a greater than the traditional Mother, Father, Son, Daughter, and a dog named Spot. Here at my company, we pride ourselves on making our business like a family. We try to be there to help each other. We try to protect our own. We try to help each other be the best we can possibly be.

But families also have a negative aspect to them. There's deceit, betrayal, and even disappointment. All of these have been painfully felt by our little family recently. We've had loyal, honest members turn against us and try to eliminate us. We've had some of our founding members turn against us and the whole of humanity, leaving us to clean up the mess and right the wrongs. We've had our own flesh and blood prove themselves untrustworthy and sorely disappointing.

We're trying to fix that. We're trying to bring our little family back to where it was supposed to be. We used to have goals and a true mission for the greater good of everyone, not just a few. We used to help people, not hurt them. Now we need to regain our bearings and right the ship, before we steer any further away from our original purpose.

But what was our original purpose? It seems like so many people have forgotten. The company was founded over 30 years ago by a group of like-minded individuals, ordinary men and women who were... gifted. We - my friends and I - wanted to help our own. To find them and protect them. But it is surprising how fast some forgot and let their own greed and ambition cloud their judgments.

Those unfortunate few have left us, seemingly forever. And the duty now falls to me to pick up the pieces and put them back where they belong. To right the wrongs. To clean up the mess. To rediscover our goal and learn from our mistakes.

And I would be most grateful for any and all help. We had some recent additions to our family. Dr. Suresh has proven to be indispensable to us. And it's been a treat to have the children of our founders join our ranks. Even my own daughter, Elle, is finally proving to be of some worth. So to each and every new member of our team, I say welcome to the family!
